Four Killed, Four Injured in Truck–Bus Crash on Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos
Lagos — Four passengers have died and four others sustained injuries following a fatal road accident involving a truck and a commercial minibus along the Lekki–Epe Expressway in Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the crash occurred opposite Beechwood, Shapati, inward Ajah, along the busy expressway corridor.
According to LASTMA, the accident involved a HOWO truck and a Suzuki commercial minibus, popularly known as a “korope.” Preliminary findings indicated that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle, veered across the carriageway and collided with the oncoming bus carrying passengers.
The violent impact left several occupants trapped inside the wreckage of the bus. Emergency responders, including officials of LASTMA and other rescue agencies, quickly moved to the scene to evacuate victims.
Authorities confirmed that four passengers died at the scene, while four others were rescued with varying degrees of injuries and taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased victims were later deposited at a morgue after the rescue operation was completed.
Driver, Assistant Flee Scene
Officials also reported that the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene shortly after the crash, leaving authorities searching for them as investigations into the incident continue.
Rising Concern Over Road Accidents
The latest incident adds to the growing number of fatal road crashes recorded in Lagos in recent months, raising concerns among traffic authorities about road safety, speeding, and driver discipline on major highways in the state.
Authorities have urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and exercise caution to prevent further tragedies on the roads.
