Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa Joins Governor Ododo to Receive Vice President Shettima in Kogi

Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa on Tuesday joined the Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, in receiving the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, during his official visit to Kogi State for the commissioning of the Barefoot Renewable Energy College at the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.
The Barefoot Renewable Energy College, established by the Federal Government through the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), is a landmark project designed to train young Nigerians in renewable energy technologies and prepare them for careers in the clean energy industry.
Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa joined other government officials, traditional rulers, development partners, and stakeholders to welcome the Vice President, reaffirming his support for programmes that expand access to quality education, practical skills, and innovation.
Speaking after the event, Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa described the commissioning of the college as a major investment in Nigeria’s future. He said the country can only achieve lasting economic growth by equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to compete in a rapidly changing world.
He noted that renewable energy is becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing industries and stressed that Nigeria must continue to invest in institutions that prepare its young people to take advantage of the opportunities in the sector.
According to him, the establishment of the college at CUSTECH, Osara, is not only a win for Kogi State but also a significant step towards building a skilled workforce that will support Nigeria’s energy transition and long-term development.
The commissioning of the Barefoot Renewable Energy College further strengthens Kogi State’s growing reputation as a centre for science, technology, research, and innovation. It also reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to creating opportunities for young Nigerians through education, technical training, and sustainable development.
Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, and the Energy Commission of Nigeria for supporting initiatives that invest in the future of Nigerian youths and the country’s economic growth.
