ADC Leadership Backs INEC, Warns Against Attempts to Undermine Electoral Process
ADC leaders Nafiu Bala Gombe and Leke Abejide declare support for INEC, praising its commitment to electoral integrity while warning against political interference.

ABUJA
The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has thrown its weight behind the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reaffirming confidence in the electoral body’s commitment to upholding democratic principles amid ongoing political tensions.
The National Chairman of the party, Nafiu Bala Gombe, alongside the party’s National Leader and member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, led a delegation of party stakeholders to INEC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, where they expressed support for the commission’s leadership.

The visit comes at a time of heightened scrutiny of electoral processes and internal party disputes, with the ADC itself grappling with leadership challenges in several states.
Commendation for INEC Leadership
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Bala Gombe praised INEC for what he described as a firm commitment to the rule of law, noting that the commission’s recent actions were necessary to preserve the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic system.
He stressed that adherence to legal frameworks remains essential for credible elections and political stability.
According to him, institutions must be allowed to function without undue pressure if democracy is to thrive.
Also speaking, Abejide commended the judiciary for its role in interpreting electoral laws and resolving disputes, noting that the courts have continued to demonstrate independence despite pressures from political actors.

The lawmaker, who represents Yagba East/West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency, said judicial pronouncements have helped to stabilise the political environment by ensuring that due process is followed.
He cautioned against attempts to manipulate legal outcomes or influence institutions for partisan advantage, warning that such actions could undermine public confidence in the system.
Warning Against Political Interference
The ADC leadership used the occasion to caution political groups and emerging coalitions against attempts to take control of existing political parties through illegitimate means.
They warned that such moves could destabilise party structures and distract key institutions, particularly INEC, from their constitutional responsibilities.
The party maintained that the law does not favour any individual or group seeking to bypass established democratic processes.
Focus on 2027 Electoral Integrity
With political realignments already taking shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, the ADC leaders called on stakeholders to prioritise the stability of democratic institutions.
They emphasised the need for all political actors to respect the rule of law and avoid actions capable of undermining electoral credibility.
The party reiterated its support for INEC and urged Nigerians to remain committed to democratic values.
Official Position
The position of the party was contained in a statement issued by its Acting National Publicity Secretary, Bashiru Abdul Mohammed, who reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to lawful political engagement.
