Tinubu Directs Campaign Group to Distribute Rice to Nigerians During Ramadan and Lent

Abuja — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed his political support group, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, to distribute rice to Nigerians across the country to support citizens observing the ongoing Ramadan fast and the Christian Lenten season.
The directive was disclosed in a statement issued by Hope Uzodimma, who serves as the Director-General of the group.
According to him, members of the organisation will coordinate the distribution through their nationwide network to ensure that families in different parts of the country benefit from the initiative during the religious season of fasting and reflection.
Mr Uzodimma said the programme reflects the president’s commitment to promoting unity and compassion among Nigerians during important religious observances. He explained that Ramadan and Lent are periods that emphasise sacrifice, charity, and support for the less privileged in society.
Under the arrangement, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will oversee the distribution using structures across states, local government areas and wards to reach households nationwide.
Questions Over Timing
Political observers have suggested that the initiative could generate debate because the organisation behind the distribution is widely regarded as a campaign support group working to mobilise backing for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement announcing the programme, however, did not provide details about the quantity of rice to be distributed, how the initiative will be funded, or where the rice would be sourced.
