Yusuf Maitama Tuggar Buys ₦50 Million APC Governorship Form for Bauchi 2027 Election
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has joined the 2027 Bauchi governorship race after purchasing the APC ₦50 million nomination form, pledging unity and development.

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State after purchasing the ₦50 million nomination and expression of interest form of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A video circulating on Wednesday, shared by Imran Mohammed, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, showed Tuggar completing documentation and receiving the nomination form from party officials.
Tuggar had earlier made public his governorship ambition during a visit to the APC secretariat in Bauchi, where he described his aspiration as a collective project aimed at strengthening unity within the party and advancing the development of the state.
“This is not just my ambition; it is a collective mission to move Bauchi State forward,” he said, stressing the need for cohesion and internal democracy within the APC.
The former minister, who resigned from office in March 2026 in line with a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requiring political appointees seeking elective positions to step down, reaffirmed his commitment to party discipline and due process.
He also pledged to support whoever emerges as the APC governorship candidate, stating that he would not engage in post-primary litigation against fellow aspirants, a position he said was necessary to preserve unity within the party.
According to Tuggar, internal harmony within the APC remains critical to securing victory in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on his agenda for Bauchi State, the former minister said his ambition is driven by the need to address persistent socio-economic challenges, including poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and deficits in education and healthcare delivery.
He pledged to prioritise agricultural development, expand opportunities for small and medium-scale enterprises, and harness the state’s solid mineral resources for economic growth.
Tuggar further promised to improve security, ensure prompt payment of workers’ salaries, and expand access to quality education and healthcare services if elected governor.
His entry into the race is expected to reshape early political calculations within the APC in Bauchi State as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
