Abejide Realigns Politically, Positions Yagba for Greater Opportunities Ahead of 2027
Rep. Leke Abejide explains his political realignment to APC, emphasizing the need to secure stronger development prospects for Yagba Federal Constituency ahead of 2027.
The lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives , has formally announced his political realignment, stating that the decision was driven by the need to safeguard and accelerate development opportunities for his constituents.
Abejide, who confirmed his exit from the (ADC) and subsequent move to the (APC), said the future of Yagba Federal Constituency remained the central consideration in his decision.
He explained that the prolonged internal crisis within the ADC, marked by leadership disputes and legal uncertainties, had created significant limitations for effective political participation, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.
According to him, the situation within the party, which he described as a result of infiltration and structural instability, raised concerns about its ability to provide a credible platform for advancing the interests of his constituency.
“For me, this decision is about the people of Yagba. It is about ensuring that we are not left behind in the scheme of national development and political relevance,” he said.
The lawmaker noted that his political journey has consistently been guided by a commitment to grassroots development, adding that remaining in a platform facing uncertainty would have undermined ongoing and future efforts aimed at improving the welfare of the people.
He disclosed that after extensive consultations with political stakeholders, community leaders, and supporters across Yagba, a consensus emerged on the need to align with a more stable platform capable of delivering tangible benefits.
Abejide emphasized that his move to the APC aligns with the broader development agenda of President , noting that closer alignment with the centre would enhance access to federal opportunities, projects, and interventions.
He further highlighted that his focus remains on expanding infrastructure, empowering youths and women, and strengthening economic opportunities across Yagba communities.
The lawmaker also clarified that his exit from the ADC was voluntary and in accordance with constitutional provisions, dismissing suggestions of disciplinary action against him by the party.
He pointed out that ongoing legal disputes within the party, including cases involving prominent figures such as , had further complicated its internal structure and weakened its operational capacity.
Political observers note that Abejide’s realignment could significantly reshape the political landscape in Kogi West, particularly given his strong grassroots base and influence within Yagba Federal Constituency.
