Tinubu Approves N2 Billion Relief Fund for Victims of Angwa Rukuba Attack in Jos

President Bola Tinubu has approved a N2 billion relief package for victims of the March 29 attack in Angwa Rukuba, Jos, following a security and humanitarian meeting with Plateau stakeholders in Abuja.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a N2 billion relief package for victims of the recent attack in Angwa Rukuba, Jos, as part of the Federal Government’s emergency response to the humanitarian crisis caused by the violence.

The approval followed a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where political, traditional, and religious leaders from Plateau State met with the President to discuss the worsening security challenges in the state and immediate support for affected communities.

The intervention is aimed at providing urgent relief for families affected by the March 29 attack, while also reinforcing federal efforts to restore peace and strengthen security measures in Plateau.

The meeting was attended by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and former Plateau governors Simon Lalong, Jonah Jang, Joshua Dariye, and Fidelis Tapgun.

Also present were notable traditional and religious leaders, including the Emir of Wase, HRM Mohammed Haruna, Da John Putmang Hirse, and the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Plateau State, Rev. Dr. Dunka Gomwalk.

Other dignitaries at the meeting included former military governor Rear Admiral Samuel Atukum (retd), Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Gapyil Daniel, former deputy governor Dame Pauline Tallen, and former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal JD Wuyep (retd).

The gathering reviewed the impact of the attack on affected communities and considered strategies to enhance humanitarian support and improve the security response in vulnerable areas across the state.

The N2 billion intervention fund, according to sources familiar with the meeting, is intended to support immediate relief efforts for victims, including displaced persons, bereaved families, and communities affected by the violence.

The funds are also expected to assist in the rehabilitation of damaged homes and provide essential welfare support for survivors.

The Federal Government’s decision comes amid renewed concerns over recurring violence in Plateau State, where communities have continued to suffer attacks that have led to loss of lives, displacement, and destruction of property.

Stakeholders at the meeting reportedly emphasised the need for sustained security intervention and closer collaboration between federal authorities, state government, community leaders, and security agencies to prevent further attacks.

President Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace in Plateau and ensuring that victims of the attack receive prompt humanitarian assistance.

The relief package is seen as part of broader efforts by the administration to address the humanitarian fallout of insecurity while advancing long-term measures to stabilise conflict-prone communities.

Security analysts say the intervention sends a strong signal of federal support to Plateau State at a time when residents are demanding urgent action to halt recurring violence.

The March 29 attack in Angwa Rukuba, which left several residents affected, heightened anxiety in Plateau and triggered calls for stronger government intervention to protect vulnerable communities.

With the newly approved relief package, expectations are high that affected victims will receive immediate support while authorities intensify efforts to tackle the root causes of insecurity in the region.
