A leading aspirant for the Kogi East Senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa, has successfully completed the party’s screening exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The screening, conducted as part of the APC’s internal process for aspirants seeking elective offices, marks a significant step in Dr. Mahmoud’s bid to represent Kogi East in the Senate.

Political observers say the development further intensifies consultations and alignments within the district as aspirants position themselves ahead of the party’s primary election.

Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa, a political economy expert and development strategist, has continued to gain attention within political circles in Kogi East due to his background in governance, economic policy, and development planning.

Supporters of the aspirant described the successful screening as a demonstration of his preparedness for the contest and his commitment to offering purposeful representation for the district at the National Assembly.

Members of his campaign team, who spoke shortly after the exercise, said Kogi East requires stronger political engagement and representation capable of attracting opportunities and influencing national policy conversations in favour of the district.

According to them, Dr. Mahmoud’s aspiration is driven by a vision to reposition Kogi East through strategic advocacy, people-oriented legislation, and effective participation in national development initiatives.

Over the years, Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa has built a profile in both public service and development policy. He previously served as Political Economy Adviser at the Federal Ministry of Environment between 2015 and 2017.

He also worked as Project Economic Adviser on development initiatives in Kaduna State and the North-East Recovery, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (RRR) programme between 2014 and 2017.

The APC aspirant was equally involved in political mobilisation during the 2015 Kogi governorship election and participated in party structures during the 2019 and 2023 presidential campaigns.

Since formally declaring his ambition, several youth groups, professionals, political stakeholders, and community leaders across Kogi East have openly expressed support for his aspiration, citing his experience, national exposure, and policy background as key strengths.

With the completion of the screening process, political activities within the APC are expected to gather momentum as aspirants intensify grassroots consultations ahead of the next phase of the party’s senatorial selection process.
