Kenneth Okonkwo Urges Nigerians to Join ADC, Calls for National Rescue from Current Challenges
Abuja, Nigeria — Nigerian actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has appealed to citizens to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of efforts to “rescue the country” from what he described as widespread insecurity, poor governance and economic hardship under the current administration.
Okonkwo, a lawyer and former spokesperson for the 2023 Labour Party presidential campaign, made the call during a series of public statements and online posts urging Nigerians to register with the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a video shared on social media, the veteran Nollywood star said he aligned with the ADC because of its constitutional focus on the welfare of citizens and its potential to offer new directions for national development. “I joined this great party because its constitution states clearly our pursuit of the welfare of this country and its people,” he said.
Call to Address National Challenges
Okonkwo said the nation has suffered under ongoing challenges, including insecurity, economic strain and governance failures, and argued that the ADC represents a platform through which Nigerians can pursue meaningful change. He described the period ahead of the 2027 general elections as a critical moment for citizens to shape the country’s future.
“My decision to join ADC is part of a broader effort to reposition this nation. We must save our country from imminent collapse by working together under a common platform,” he said.
The actor also urged Nigerians to obtain ADC membership and registration cards, signalling that collective mobilisation will be crucial to challenging the ruling party and other political groupings perceived as failing to deliver solutions to the country’s pressing issues.

Okonkwo’s appeal comes as the ADC has been gaining visibility in the national political landscape, with other opposition figures and elected lawmakers reportedly defecting to the party. Recent commentary from Okonkwo highlighted his belief that the ADC is now a key platform capable of uniting diverse political interests seeking alternatives to the governing party.
