Tinubu Approves Cabinet Reshuffle, Replaces Wale Edun with Taiwo Oyedele as Finance Minister
President Bola Tinubu has approved a cabinet reshuffle, replacing Finance Minister Wale Edun with Taiwo Oyedele and naming Muttaqha Darma as ministerial nominee for Housing.

ABUJA
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle in the Federal Executive Council, resulting in the exit of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
The changes were announced in an official memo issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, as part of efforts to strengthen governance coordination and improve policy delivery under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Oyedele Takes Over Finance Ministry
Under the new arrangement, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, replacing Wale Edun.
Before his appointment, Oyedele served as Minister of State in the Finance Ministry and has been involved in the administration’s economic reform initiatives.
The presidency said the elevation is intended to deepen fiscal coordination and enhance the implementation of economic policies aimed at stabilising the economy and improving service delivery.
New Nominee for Housing Ministry
The President also approved the nomination of Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the incoming Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
Pending his confirmation and assumption of office, the outgoing minister, Ahmed Dangiwa, has been directed to hand over responsibilities to the Minister of State in the ministry.
According to the directive, all handover processes are to be completed on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Reason for the Changes
Explaining the rationale behind the cabinet changes, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation stated that the reshuffle is aimed at improving policy synergy and ensuring more effective governance outcomes.
According to Akume, the adjustments are expected to “strengthen cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieve more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians.”
He added that the President acted within the constitutional powers vested in him under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
Tinubu Commends Outgoing Ministers
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their contributions to the administration, thanking them for their service to the nation.
He also wished them success in their future endeavours and assured members of the Federal Executive Council that efforts to strengthen government performance would remain continuous.
The SGF noted that the latest reshuffle forms part of the administration’s broader strategy to reinvigorate governance structures and maintain momentum in delivering on its policy priorities.
Analysts Watch Economic Direction
The replacement of Wale Edun with Taiwo Oyedele is expected to attract attention from economic stakeholders, given the importance of the Finance Ministry in managing fiscal policy, inflation pressures, and broader economic reforms.
Observers say the appointment of Oyedele could signal a renewed focus on tax reform, revenue generation, and fiscal restructuring, areas in which he has played a visible role in recent years.
The nomination of Darma for the Housing Ministry is also expected to shape the government’s housing and urban development agenda as the administration pushes for expanded infrastructure delivery.
