Kwankwaso Dumps NNPP, Officially Joins ADC in Major Political Realignment

Kano, Nigeria
Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and ex-Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Kwankwaso completed his registration with the party and was issued a membership card on Monday at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, located along Miller Road in Bompai, Kano.
The event drew a high-profile gathering of political figures from across party lines. Among those present were ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi; Senator Dino Melaye; and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.
The development follows Kwankwaso’s resignation from the NNPP, which he announced a day earlier. In his statement, the former Minister of Defence confirmed that his exit from the party took immediate effect.
He described the decision as a difficult one, given his long-standing relationship with the NNPP, but said prevailing political realities necessitated a strategic shift.
According to him, the current direction of the country’s political environment demands realignment with a platform capable of delivering meaningful national change.
Kwankwaso expressed appreciation to the NNPP leadership, including its National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, as well as other party organs, for their support during his time in the party.
He also acknowledged members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and his supporters for their loyalty and commitment, assuring them of continued collaboration in pursuit of a better future for the country.
