Bandits Kill NSCDC Officer, Abduct Daughter in Kogi Community
Armed bandits on Monday night attacked Odo-Ere, the headquarters of Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi, killing a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and abducting his daughter.
Sources in the community told our correspondent that the victim, identified simply as Mr. Ayo Olukotun, was attacked during the invasion of the town by suspected bandits on Monday night.
According to the sources, the NSCDC officer sustained a gunshot wound to the head during the attack and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
However, he was reportedly confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.
His remains were subsequently deposited at a mortuary as a brought-in-dead case.
The attackers were also said to have abducted the officer’s first daughter, Victoria, before fleeing the area.
The incident has heightened tension among residents of the community, who expressed concern over the recurring security challenges in the area.
Some residents called on security agencies and relevant authorities to strengthen security measures and intensify efforts to secure the release of the abducted victim.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the NSCDC nor other security agencies had issued an official statement on the attack.
Efforts to obtain comments from security authorities were unsuccessful.
