FG Declares April 3 and 6 Public Holidays for Easter Celebration

The Federal Government has declared April 3 and April 6, 2026, as public holidays for Easter, urging Nigerians to embrace unity, love, and national values.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

In his Easter message, the minister congratulated Christians across Nigeria and in the diaspora, urging them to reflect on the spiritual significance of the season.

He called on citizens to imbibe the virtues associated with Easter, including selflessness, forgiveness, tolerance, and love, as exemplified in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Tunji-Ojo further emphasised the importance of national unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that these values are essential to strengthening Nigeria’s social cohesion.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to national development, he stated that ongoing policy initiatives are focused on promoting economic growth, national renewal, and shared prosperity for all Nigerians.

In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, the minister also extended his best wishes to Christians for a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration.
