APC Ready for 8th National Convention in Abuja, Says Information Minister

Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), will begin its 8th National Convention in Abuja on Friday, as the Federal Government has confirmed that all preparations for the major political gathering have been completed.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known during a world media briefing held Thursday in Abuja, assuring stakeholders that the convention will be conducted in a transparent, credible, and orderly manner.
According to Idris, the theme of this year’s convention, “Unity in Progress, Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” highlights the party’s resolve to strengthen internal cohesion while supporting the broader governance agenda of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He explained that the theme also reflects the alignment between the party’s internal political processes and the national development vision being pursued by the current administration.
The minister noted that the APC has continued to demonstrate resilience and political maturity in managing leadership transitions within its ranks, describing the forthcoming convention as another test of the party’s democratic culture and organisational discipline.
Idris further stated that the gathering will serve as an opportunity for party leaders and members to showcase key achievements recorded under President Tinubu’s leadership while reinforcing support for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also reassured Nigerians, as well as members of the international community, that the convention will be conducted in line with established democratic standards, reiterating the party’s commitment to unity, inclusion, and purposeful leadership.
More than 8,000 delegates from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to participate in the convention, which will feature policy discussions, leadership elections, and the emergence of new party executives.
The two-day event is scheduled to take place at Eagle Square from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28, 2026, with party leaders expressing confidence that the convention will be peaceful and successful.
