Kogi West: Sam Aro Calls for APC Unity, Reconciliation After Court Judgment on Senatorial Primary

Hon. Sam Aro has called for unity and reconciliation among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi West following the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja concerning the party’s senatorial primary election for the district.

Aro, in a statement dated November 4, 2026, described the ruling as an important moment in the political affairs of Kogi West and urged party members to put their differences behind them in the interest of the district and the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

He expressed gratitude to God and commended the judiciary for upholding the principles of the rule of law, due process and peaceful resolution of disputes through democratic institutions.

According to him, the judgment should not be treated as an opportunity for political celebration at the expense of others but as a moment for reflection, reconciliation and renewed commitment to the development of Kogi West.

“This is not a moment of triumph over anyone. It is a moment for reconciliation, reflection, and renewed unity. There is no victor and no vanquished,” Aro said.

Aro Extends Hand of Fellowship to Karimi

The APC chieftain specifically appealed for political understanding with Senator Sunday Karimi, acknowledging his contributions to the political development of Kogi West and describing their differences as political rather than personal.

Aro said he had no ill feelings towards the senator, stressing that both men remained united by their shared heritage and responsibility to the people of the district despite having been on opposing sides of the political contest.

He also reached out to Karimi’s supporters across the seven local government areas of Kogi West, recognising their loyalty and commitment to their preferred candidate.

He urged them to remain part of the party’s collective efforts, insisting that the political process should not result in bitterness, exclusion or lasting divisions among APC members.

Aro further cautioned his own supporters against excessive celebrations, provocation or remarks capable of ridiculing Karimi and his loyalists.

He maintained that the mandate at stake should be regarded as belonging to the entire party and, ultimately, the people of Kogi West, irrespective of political affiliation or individual preference.

Promises Inclusive Campaign Across Seven LGAs

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Aro pledged to personally reach out to party leaders, stakeholders, elders, women, youths and supporters across the seven local government areas of the senatorial district.

He said his proposed campaign would be built around unity, inclusion, mutual respect and a commitment to addressing the developmental needs and aspirations of the people.

According to him, no community or stakeholder would be considered insignificant in the process of building a stronger political platform capable of delivering effective representation and expanding opportunities across the district.

Aro identified improved representation, development opportunities and the equitable delivery of democratic dividends as key areas requiring collective attention.

He also called on APC leaders and members in Kogi West to close ranks and work together towards securing victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.

Party Unity Above Individual Ambitions

Emphasising the need to place the collective interest of the district above personal political ambitions, Aro said the task ahead was greater than the interests of any individual or faction.

He reiterated his willingness to meet with Senator Karimi and his supporters to exchange ideas, rebuild confidence and chart a common political course for the benefit of Kogi West.

The statement concluded with an appeal for political differences to give way to enduring relationships and a shared commitment to the progress of the district, Kogi State and Nigeria.

The Federal High Court judgment is the latest development in the dispute surrounding the APC senatorial primary in Kogi West. Aro’s appeal for reconciliation signals an attempt to encourage cohesion within the party as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
