Abejide Takes Empowerment Drive to Kano, Targets One Million Residents, Mobilises Support for Tinubu

The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, RT Hon. Leke Abejide, is set to take his grassroots empowerment drive to Kano State, with a programme targeting one million residents across the state.

The initiative, being coordinated by the One Million Residents Community Empowerment Committee, is aimed at creating opportunities for youths, women, entrepreneurs, artisans, small-business owners and other residents at the grassroots.

According to a statement signed by Hon. Seyi Olorunsola on behalf of the committee, the programme will also mobilise grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The organisers, however, said the initiative extends beyond political mobilisation, describing it as part of Abejide’s longstanding relationship with Kano, where he lived for several years and began his business and educational careers.

Abejide later returned to Kogi State, where he ventured into politics and was elected to represent Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He is currently serving his second term and seeking re-election for a third term in the forthcoming 2027 general election.

In preparation for the initiative, a 21-member committee has been inaugurated to coordinate its planning, grassroots mobilisation and implementation across Kano State.

The committee is expected to engage community leaders, political stakeholders, youths, women, entrepreneurs and other groups to ensure that the empowerment opportunities reach intended beneficiaries.

Explaining the motivation behind the programme, the committee said the initiative was designed to put people at the centre of political engagement by creating opportunities and improving livelihoods.

“This is not simply about politics; it is about people. Leadership becomes meaningful when it creates opportunities, empowers families and gives ordinary citizens hope for a better tomorrow,” the committee said.

The organisers said the programme would further strengthen community engagement, promote economic empowerment and encourage greater participation in the democratic process.

The flag-off is expected to attract community leaders, youths, women, entrepreneurs, political stakeholders and residents from different parts of Kano State.

Describing Abejide as the “Asiwaju Yoruba Kano” in recognition of his longstanding ties to the state, the committee urged residents and stakeholders to support the initiative, which it said was anchored on empowerment, unity, development and continuity.

“One million residents. One vision. One commitment,” the committee declared.
