2027: NNPP Aligns With ADC in Strategic Push to Consolidate Opposition Strength

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced plans to collaborate with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of early preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, disclosed this during a television interview, explaining that the proposed alliance would focus mainly on the presidential race, while the NNPP retains its structure for other elective positions.

He stated that the party remains committed to contesting elections at various levels but will work in partnership with the ADC at the presidential level to strengthen opposition prospects.

Johnson also spoke on recent developments within the party, particularly the departure of its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. He noted that the former Kano State governor’s exit followed wide consultations with political stakeholders and leaders across opposition circles.

Kwankwaso is expected to officially join the ADC, a move widely interpreted as part of ongoing efforts to build a broader opposition coalition ahead of the next general elections.

The NNPP spokesman further revealed that engagements among opposition leaders have intensified, with the aim of forming a united front capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.

The emerging alliance comes amid internal shifts within the Kwankwasiyya movement, including recent defections by some prominent figures, which have contributed to growing divisions within the bloc.

Political analysts believe that if successfully implemented, the NNPP-ADC partnership could significantly alter the opposition landscape and shape the contest for the 2027 presidency.
