AAC’s Sowore Writes Tinubu, Seeks Aso Rock Approval for 2027 Campaign Council Inauguration

A major opposition party, the African Action Congress (AAC), led by its Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has written to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, seeking approval to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, on November 11, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected to attend the proposed event from within Nigeria and abroad.

The request was contained in a letter dated October 21, 2026, addressed to the President at the Presidential Villa and signed by the AAC National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminojghena.

In the letter, the party invoked the principles of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties, arguing that public institutions should serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination.

The AAC said granting its request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness and equal access, particularly in ensuring that political parties are treated equitably in their engagement with public institutions.

The party also referenced what it described as similar arrangements reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a comparable political engagement, asking the President to extend the same consideration to the AAC.

According to the letter, the proposed inauguration forms part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, as it seeks to organise its campaign structure ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The request places the issue of political inclusiveness at the centre of the party’s appeal, with the AAC maintaining that access to public institutions should not be determined by party affiliation.

The party further requested information on the applicable procedures and conditions for obtaining approval, expressing its willingness to comply with the relevant requirements.

However, the letter did not indicate whether the Presidency had approved the request. It also did not provide details of any logistical arrangements or funding commitments by the government.

The development comes as political parties continue preparations for the 2027 general elections, with questions of equal treatment, access to public institutions and the conduct of multiparty democracy likely to remain part of the national political discourse.
