Bandit Attacks Force 10 Katsina Communities to Suspend Friday Prayers

Katsina, Nigeria — At least ten communities in Katsina State were forced to suspend Friday prayers due to ongoing threats from armed bandits, local authorities have reported. The decision underscores the growing insecurity in the region and the persistent challenges of ensuring civilian safety.
Residents confirmed that fear of attacks led them to halt congregational worship, while local vigilante groups and security operatives increased patrols to protect vulnerable areas. The affected communities reportedly include rural settlements prone to bandit incursions.
State security sources said the suspension of prayers is a precautionary measure while military and police units intensify operations to combat banditry and restore confidence among residents.
Security analysts note that Katsina and other North-West states remain hotspots for bandit attacks, which often target villages, schools, and farming communities. The repeated disruptions have heightened concerns about the safety of citizens and the capacity of law enforcement to contain criminal networks.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to local security agencies, stressing that collaboration between communities and security forces is crucial in tackling banditry in the region.
