Nigeria’s Defence Minister Summons Service Chiefs Over Resurgence of Insurgency in North-East

Abuja, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has summoned the country’s service chiefs to an urgent meeting following renewed insurgent attacks on military positions in the North-East region.

The meeting comes amid growing concern within security circles after insurgents reportedly overran more than three military bases within a week, raising questions about the evolving tactics of armed groups operating in the region.

According to reports, the service chiefs were invited to the defence minister’s office in Abuja on Wednesday for strategic discussions aimed at reviewing the country’s counter-insurgency operations and strengthening the military’s response to the latest security threats.

During the meeting, Mr Musa and the military leadership reviewed ongoing operations and explored new approaches to intensify the fight against terrorist groups in the North-East.

While acknowledging that the renewed attacks have led to casualties among Nigerian troops, the minister said insurgents also suffered significant losses during recent engagements with the armed forces.
